A Weekend of What To Dos in Amish Country
Ease In on Friday
Spend Friday afternoon slowing down to the pace of life in Amish Country. After checking in, get the lay of the land on a romantic buggy ride and/or tour of Amish Country. Amish Heartland Tours and the Inn at Honey Run both offer buggy rides and tours. With Amish Heartland tours, join in on their most popular tour, the Amish Dinner Tour. The tour winds through the quaint homes of local Amish families and includes artisan baked goods, farm visits, and the final destination: a home-cooked Amish meal inside an Amish home.
Make Friday an early night and head back to the Inn at Honey Run to spend the evening snuggled together. If you aren’t ready to lock yourselves in the room just yet, borrow our night vision goggles for after-supper bird watching experience on the grounds. When you’re ready to hit the hay, our lodging is designed for couples, including a cottage with an outdoor hot tub, and another with a two person Jacuzzi in-suite. The combination of Jacuzzi and a movie doesn’t sound all that bad, right?
Have a Show Stopping Saturday
Catch Amish Country from a whole new perspective atop a horse as you gallop around on an horseback tour from Amish Country Riding Stables. Only two to five riders go out at any given time, ensuring an intimate experience for couples. Along the way, you’re likely to work up an appetite worthy of the next stop on our weekend itinerary.
Wine is a must! Pop over to Breitenbach Winery and do a little wine tasting with lunch. The closest winery to the hotel, Breitenbach offers delicious lunch selections in their café to accompany their wine. Plan to visit on Saturday, as the winery is closed on Sundays.
Romantic getaways in Ohio should always include at least one lavish meal. Splurge on the only fine dining in Amish Country at Tarragon, which often markes anniversary celebrations or other special occasions for our guests. Sunday Funday
Wake up, hold hands, and hike the Mohican Valley Trail. Find romance in amongst the trees on this 4.5 mile rail-to trail hike. It is a leisurely walk on a sand and stone surface that will lead you to the Bridge of Dreams, the longest covered bridge in Ohio. Enjoy the sounds of indigo buntings, rose-breasted grosbeaks, Baltimore orioles, rufous-sided towhees, and great-crested flycatchers. Spring wildflowers collect along portions of the trail, including trillium and phlox.
Nothing says “romance” like chocolate — finish up your trip at Coblentz Chocolates to sample some of the area’s highest-quality chocolates. Take home a box of Swiss-style truffles to keep the romance going even after you wave farewell to Amish Country.
