While you are experiencing the charmingly quaint, yet sophisticated, accommodations of The Inn at Honey Run, step off the beaten path and into historical Ohio Amish Country. A tour of Amish Country is a fantastic way to learn about the rich history of the determined, hardworking, and tight-knit community.
Amish Heartland Tours offers several tour options that lend a closer look at the Amish way of life. On one tour, guests can share a private meal with an Amish bishop and his family, learning about their life story and traditions while you relish Amish comfort food. Knowledgable guides lead all of the Amish Country tour options, including a two-hour sightseeing and Amish artisan tour featuring basket makers, candle creators, quilters, and leather workers in the midst of their age-old craft. Most tours include a scenic ride in through the fields and rolling hills of our Ohio countryside. You may even have the option to stop at a home bakery, where the smell of fresh apple fritters, cheese tarts, and glistening donuts will tempt you into a midday feast.
For a chance to get a thorough look inside an Amish home, and one of their famous barns, visit Yoder’s Amish Home. The 116-acre farm is owned and operated by a local Amish family, who welcome visitors into the two homes, barn and schoolhouse on the property and offer short-and-sweet buggy rides around their hay field. The Yoder family’s 120-year-old barn is a sight to see — built with hand-hewn beams and pegs — and is home to a variety of farm animals, from beagles and bunnies to lambs and horses. Stop over at the Schoolhouse to look inside the local parochial school and see how they operate a modern copier without the use of electricity (truly a feat!). At the Yoder’s Amish Home, you’ll see the intricacies of the Amish lifestyle and leave fulfilled by their wisdom in a realm where manners matter and people are not judged on trivial characteristics.
For those hoping to learn a little about Amish heritage AND stock up on souvenirs, Schrock’s Amish Farm and Village is worth a visit. Whether you’d like to hit the road in an Amish buggy, or tour an Amish home, Schrock’s is a great place to learn more about the heritage and history of Ohio Amish Country. Visitors to the on-site Amish home, once owned by an Amish bishop, have the chance to learn about Amish traditions and their modern lifestyle on a self-guided Amish Country tour, and to sample Alma’s signature cookies and candy. Save time to stop by the vast array of shops, where you’ll find an assortment of Amish clothing, pottery, kitchen accessories, jams, jewelry, quilts, and other handcrafted items.
Our guests can even take an Amish Country tour right from The Inn at Honey Run, in our very own Amish buggy. On these hour-long Amish Country Buggy Rides — guided by one of our amicable Amish neighbors — you’ll tour our winding back roads while listening to the creaking of wooden wheels and the clacking of horse hooves. Before you know it, the buggy will come to a stop outside of our boutique hotel, where you can return to the comfort and modernity that Honey Run has to offer.
