Dear Honey Run Friends,
The past few days the nighttime temperature has been dropping to the low 50s here at The Inn. While I am not fully ready for summer to end, I am excited about the arrival of fall. Fall is a magical time at The Inn when the forest prepares for its winter slumber and sheds its leaves from the year. Many of you flock to see this color display of nature and enjoy the natural beauty of this complicated dance of death to rebirth.
Our local community recently encountered this display on a human level. A young mother of four children lost her battle with cancer. The questions of why God allows such a thing fills all our hearts and minds. As we question the why I encourage you to stop and look at the beauty of His creation. In the unfairness of life, I see beauty and I see hope. Why do some people have so many struggles in life? Why do some people skip through life without a care in the world? Why do some of us get to live a century and some just a few precious minutes? The answer I have found in my journey is not to ask what I don’t get to have but rather what I have received. Life is a gift from our Creator and every minute counts. The question I ask myself is am I investing my time today, at this moment, into what is most important to me? Am I taking the time to complete my life’s work, honor my Lord and Savior, savoring moments with my family and loved ones? I fail at this often but I seek realignment constantly so I can confidently review my life at my last breath and know that I did not waste the gift that was given to me.
I pray that you have time to ask these questions of yourself and to prioritize your life in a way that leaves you with more joy than regrets. I pray you can take some time to enjoy God’s creation and the life He gave you. I pray you know without a doubt that while this life is a gift, the true gift comes at the opening of the next chapter. And when we each get to receive the gift of the next life all our struggles from this life will melt away and we will know life as it was intended as a perfect creation.
Enjoy the fall color and savor each breath you breathe.
Your contemplative Innkeeper,
Jason
This was a wonderful writing, a good reminder to truly appreciate what God has given instead of always thinking about the glass half full! Thank you, and God bless you!!
Amen! God is worthy of our adoration. He provides exceedingly above all that we ask and need. Thank you for continuing to pour out your heart to others and for your labors at the Inn!
