It was a perfectly normal Friday when an email popped into my inbox inquiring about an extra special occasion that was outside of my normal wedding inquiries. Kevin, a medical student in Cleveland, had just made a reservation for our Preferred Club-Level Honeycombs and thought that the private stone terrace would be the perfect location to propose to his girlfriend, Karen. I enthusiastically agreed, and quickly we began working on a vision to transform the terrace into a romantic and picturesque proposal location.
I had one month to gather materials, draw up a plan, and figure out a timeline to execute Kevin’s vision. Kevin and I decided on decorating using as many candles as possible, an array of fresh rose petals, plates of piling chocolate, and chilled champagne to top it all off. The week of the proposal was an unseasonably warm week for February, but, as Ohio weather goes, the proposal day was going to be in the 30s and cloudy. Rather than the walk through our Open Air Art Museum trail that I had originally suggested, I recommended that Karen and Kevin enjoy their club-level amenities in Tarragon’s lounge.
Luckily, we had a veteran Ohio wedding photographer, Loren Jackson, to capture all of the beautiful moments through the proposal day. Read what Loren had to say about the day, here:
…I love wedding days because it’s the start of marriage. The first day of many years. When I photograph proposals, I have the same feeling, but stronger. My heart races, my hair stands up on end, anticipation rages through my body. There’s a level of excitement that I can only relate to with first looks.
Kevin’s proposal to Karen was no different. It was a bit chilly, especially when the day before I wore a pair of shorts, and then the very next day I had on several layers to stay warm. We arrived a couple of minutes early to scope out the location where the proposal was happening. Leah and another staff member of The Inn at Honey Run set up Kevin and Karen’s private patio with candles and rose petals while they were enjoying a cocktail hour in the main Inn.
With a 10 minute warning, I sent Kevin a text letting him know it was go time. He and Karen strolled back up to their quaint private suite in the honeycombs. When they walked outside to their private patio, we were there ready to capture the moment Karen said yes!
After wiping some tears out of my weeping eyes, [I] congratulated the beautiful couple on the wonderful news, [and] we spent some time taking engagement photos!

It was such an honor to put together this beautiful proposal setting for Kevin and Karen. I am looking forward to seeing their marriage story unfold, and wish them the very best on a beautiful future together!
