With 14 baby bluebirds already fledged (left the nest) this year, we’re in the swing of a second brood here at the Inn. Our bluebird trail currently has five boxes occupied with bluebird families and a total of 22 bluebird eggs.
Upon checking boxes Friday, hatching had begun! 11 nestlings had hatched, with parents close by to keep watch while I counted young and checked nests.
What an intriguing process to closely follow the life of such a beautiful species of bird as they change from such tiny, fuzzy, awkward looking babies to captivating, colorful, and graceful bluebird adults!
