• Deadhead bulbs and spring flowering perennials as blossoms fade, remove bulb foliage when yellow in color
• Watch for bagworms feeding on many landscape plants especially blue spruce, juniper, and arborvitae. They are tricky to catch, mimicking small “cones” in shape and size. They feed relentlessly on plants and the stress/defoliation can kill the plant.
• Apply a balanced rose fertilizer when first blooms is past
• Pruning of spring flowering trees and shrubs should be completed by month’s end. Pruning any later will result in removal and loss of flower buds for the following season.
• Pinch azalea and rhododendron blossoms as they fade
• Soaker hoses and drip irrigation make the most efficient use of water during the heat of summer. Be sure to water in the morning, allowing foliage to dry during the day. This deters disease possibility.
