Dear Honey Run Friends,
Three days ago, I had a few minutes in the afternoon to climb to the top of the hill and just be still. I sat there looking east over the rolling hills of Hardy Township in Holmes County and I was at peace. I was flooded with feelings of love and gratitude. Images of The Inn passed through my mind of how things were twelve years ago when I purchased the property, and how they have changed today. There have been struggles and even scary moments in the business, as well as absolute blessings and moments of deep joy. I love The Inn at Honey Run. I am at my happiest on these hallowed grounds and there is a mystical quality to this resort. I celebrated my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary here with my family a few months before I purchased The Inn. I have hosted several family reunions, made lifelong friends here, and met new friends and associates through our team members, tradespeople, and vendors. I have watched the sun rise and set over the grounds. I have helped clean up fallen trees and buried my share of sheep and cats on the property. I have been allowed to dream, create, and help personalize this living work of art known as The Inn at Honey Run.
With the stress and heartache that go along with owning a small business I can honestly say I would not change a thing. Do I hate it when money is tight, or when we are having a staffing shortage? Absolutely, but without these rough days I would not know the good days- And the good days are so good. They are so rewarding that it brings tears of joy to my eyes just thinking about it. Joy of walking the trails in the winter and hearing the soft crunch of snow beneath my boots. Joy of hearing the birds singing their chorus of chirps and birdsongs echoing left, then right, and then surrounding the landscape. The joy of meeting guests and hearing about their joy at the resort celebrating their anniversary or special event. The joy of meeting guests at the end of their time here on earth and hearing the clarity of peace that resides inside them as they prepare to go victoriously to eternity.
The Inn at Honey Run is more than just a 39-room boutique resort located in Ohio’s Amish country. It is a sanctuary of God’s creation providing our busy souls a moment in time to slow down and appreciate all that has been given to us in this life. I don’t know about you, but I need this reminder of what is important in life. I need these quiet retreats to center my soul so that I have the energy to forge on in my calling and purpose.
Your reflective Innkeeper,
Jason
It’s been a few years since we visited the Inn. While a guest on several occasions, we walked the grounds, enjoyed the Honeycombs as well as the Inn itself. How could we forget the meals so elegantly served especially the morning breakfasts. There will come a day that we will experience once again the peace and serenity of the Inn at Honey Run. Thanks Jason!
I am inspired by your letters, if only more people would think like you ,we would have a better more peaceful world. You see the sacred in the ordinary, I too, try to do the same. We hope to visit the Inn again soon and to enjoy the beauty of the “sacred” place,
My friends and myself love the Inn. We explore the grounds before dinner and we are always delighted to make new discoveries. The menu at the Tarragon never disappoints.
