March 7, 2013
Dear Honey Run Friends,
I am always amazed at the consistency of time. Every year spring arrives either on March 19, 20, or 21st. This year the Vernal Equinox will be arriving on March 20th and to be more precise it will arrive at 7:02 EDT at Honey Run. This incredible event only happens twice a year and for us and for our neighbors in the Northern Hemisphere this is when spring and fall are ushered in and the earth for a moment is neither tilting towards or away from the sun. The sun follows its course and crosses the celestial equator. The choreography and execution is flawless every year day in and day out. Why? Why does there have to be day and night? Why can’t we enjoy the light of the sun 24 hours each day? Why have the seasons? Why not create the perfect climate for crops and humans? I do not know the answers to these questions but I do know that the gift of day to night creates spectacular sunsets that I get to appreciate. And on a clear night at Honey Run I can see stars from all over the galaxy. It is breathtaking and humbling to see the vastness of our existence standing on the ground in Millersburg, Ohio looking up. While I do not always know the why part of life, I certainly know the wow. And when I turn the television off, let go of my daily stresses, and get out of my own head, I allow myself to appreciate and enjoy this wonderful gift that has been bestowed upon me.
I hope your schedule provides you some time to relax and enjoy the changing seasons at Honey Run in the near future.
Sincerely,
Jason Nies
