December 2015
Dear Honey Run Friends,
Christmas is my favorite time of the year.
It is a celebration of new beginnings and is meant to be a time to slow down and celebrate the birth of Jesus. At the moment, my head is about to pop from the pressures and stress of life and then a colleague calls and shares some kind words that release the pressure valve just enough to keep the catastrophic from occurring. I continue working and while at the front desk I have the opportunity to share a moment with a lovely couple who has been coming to the inn for over thirty years.
Psssst, a little more pressure is released…
An artist from Columbus comes in to the inn to share how impressed he is with the Holmes County Open Air Art Museum, a little more pressure is released. I am almost at an even state of being when I hear the Christmas carol, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, causing me to freeze and reflect. With the musical atmosphere smothered in Christmas cheer and my visual surroundings of the Inn decorated to the nines, I am fully embraced in the joy of the celebration. Amidst all of the fanfare I often forget the purpose of the season and then I am reminded from the inquisitive question from Charlie Brown and the loving answer from his friend Linus.
Charlie Brown: “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?!”
Linus: “Sure Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about. Lights please!”
‘And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo the angel of the Lord came down upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were so afraid. And the angel said unto them; Fear not; for, behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people! For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and goodwill towards men.’
“That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”
I love this season!
Every emotion is present and it should be if we are to experience the gift of this life. I pray that you have a blessed advent season and a Merry Christmas!
I loved your December letter, Jason.
That IS what Christmas is all about !!!!
How nice Jason. What a great December letter. As I write this my wife Linda and I are visiting the Inn. A week before Christmas and we just read your letter together. We’re enjoying sitting around a fire downstairs while listening to Christmas music. As Linus says “lights please.” In this case it’s the lights of the season, it’s the atmosphere or ambiance of the Inn, and it’s the lights of Christmas and the hope and joy it brings to us all.
