Relief from the heat brings a second wind to gardeners. Here are some monthly gardening chores to consider for your garden in the month of September.
Spring blooming perennials can be divided now
Divide peonies now. Plant in a sunny site and avoid planting too deeply
Autumn is a good time to add compost, leaf mold, or manure to gardens for added organic matter
Seed or sod cool season lawns. Touch up bare areas and keep watered if rain is deficient
Stop fertilizing roses
Harvest herbs now to freeze or dry for winter
Observe and improve your beds. Walk through and note changes to make. Shop local nurseries for plants to add fall color to your garden(s).
Most of all take time to enjoy your hard work!
