Yet another extraordinary find on The Inn at Honey Run’s property, Lilium canadense (Canada Lily)! I am so lucky to be able to marvel at the incredibly diverse plant life here on property. You can share in the amazement too, though – just give us a visit!
If you’ve been following my posts, you can probably imagine my excitement when I came across this marvel. I searched our property after being able to locate a few specimen hoping to find this beauty located elsewhere on our 56 acres. Unfortunately, but also fortunately, the only ones I could find were the two flowering and one immature L. canadense along the Open Air Art Museum.
Knowing how stunning L. canadense is, I needed to provide some literature as to deter visitors from plucking this beautiful bloom and allow it to reproduce peacefully in hopes that it will produce fertile seed and spread to other areas of our property. I will be harvesting some of the seed and propagating it. However, I will leave at least half of the seeds, allowing them to disperse naturally and allowing natural selection to run its course.
This area has yet to cease to amaze me, and if you’ve been here before, you understand why!
