Letter from Jason – September 2020

Dear Honey Run Friends,

I was reviewing my past writings for September and noticed that this month’s theme is often about the Open Air Art Museum. We opened the museum in September 2015, and five years later we continue to enhance the trail and add new installations. This September, we are adding a piece called “Primitive Gateways” by local artist Jeannette Perez. This museum is one of my favorite activities at The Inn. I absolutely love the installations, the process of imagining the new installations with the artist, and experiencing the finished art in the forest setting. It brings me pure joy. Art has always brought me joy. Seeing creations made by man intertwining with God’s creation of nature is the ultimate wow for me visually. What makes the Open Air Art Museum even more special is that my sense of smell, touch, and hearing are all activated while I visually experience the art. It is a full sensory experience that is not had with art in an indoor setting.

Each year we add an installation or two. Since we are fully self-funded it takes time and considerable resources for each installation. I am an impatient person, and the slow pace of creation for the art museum does not bode well with me. But I know it is the right thing. Each year things change slightly in the world, allowing each installation to express that time and place in time, which ultimately gives us a varying timeline of our culture on exhibition. I can only imagine what type of art will be commissioned in 2035. I cannot wait to see!

I hope you can come enjoy the museum and appreciate the skills that each artist has blessed us with in their particular installation. I hope you are able to enjoy God’s beautiful creation along the museum and see the magnificent beauty that is found with the sunlight peeking through the tree canopy cascading over the art. Witnessing the quiet creek winding through the valley below always makes me stop and be silent for a few moments. I love our forest. I love our Open Air Art Museum. And I love that I am able to be here at this moment in time and be a part of The Inn at Honey Run and the creating of the Holmes County Open Air Art Museum.

Your art-enthusiast Innkeeper,

Jason

I so look forward to your emails Jason. You are so in tune with nature You bring much Joy to the Inn, and we appreciate you.
We’ve been coming since the early 80’s. We stayed in the Honeycombs. We have a favorite room in the lodge. And we just spent our first ever few days in the Cardinal cabin.
