October Letter From Jason

October 2015

Dear Honey Run Friends,

The leaves are changing, the air is cool, and the farmers are reaping their fall harvest. The clichés of fall newsletters never fail to amuse me. The truth is the season of fall is my favorite, but not for the same reasons most people love fall. I am colorblind so I don’t have the gift of observing the spectacular fall colors that I hear so many of you talk about, but what I focus on and can see is the sky.

I love the sky in the fall. A sunny day with the cool air and puffy white clouds is a spiritual epiphany I celebrate as the season briefly shares this window of time with me. I get lost in the shapes of the clouds as they soar by overhead and as I wait for the daily finale of sunset. Sunsets are one of the greatest treasures we are given and almost every day the sunset is visible as the magic that comes to life rivals any good production. It’s not as flashy as a fireworks show or as action packed as a television program but the silent beauty of this life-sustaining ball of fire disappearing beyond the horizon with the differing shades and levels of brightness among the clouds puts me in awe each time I slow down to watch.

During this display, without fail, I began to reflect on life and I always become thankful. The joy that fills me reminds me how special this life is and how few sunsets I will actually observe in my short time here on earth. Life is short, and the world will go on without me, but I pray that my presence is a blessing to someone. Each of us makes a difference to those we come in contact with during our journey. We are important regardless of how small we are in the grand scheme of the world.

I hope you have the opportunity to see and learn during your life the impact you have on others. Please reward yourself and step outside this autumn day and look up, seize the moment, soak in the masterpiece that is present for that moment in time just for you, and know that you are loved and needed.

Your awed amateur sky gazer,

Jason

    Jason,
What a beautiful letter. I enjoyed reading it, and imagined looking at a gorgeous sunset. We live fairly close to Lake Erie, and the sunsets are awesome. I even get some beautiful sunrises on clear mornings where I live (Eaton Township).
    Thank you.

Jason – you have a very, very special talent. I am sure, in your humble way, you do realize that you are a superb storyteller!

I am so glad you brought up the subject of autumn skies. Not only is the fall sunset as spectacular as fireworks but the sunrise is a close second. On my way to work I head into the sunrise and in the last three days I have seen cloud formations that are completely new to me (not to mention the saturation of perfect pink to accompany the show).

Now, if I was there, at Honey Run, I could experience (weather permitting) two breathtaking shows a day! Because of the near pristine visibility, there could be one at dawn and one at cocktail time in the evening followed by dinner at Trillium. How perfect!

OK, not over yet! After a superb dinner, I would stroll out to the fire pit because the 3rd show is about to start. Bring your blanket, sit back and watch the “other” sky show! Ahhh, Honey Run, bring on the stars, I miss you.
