Letter from Jason – May 2017

Dear Honey Run Friends,

Are you barreling through life at a million miles per hour? Each day jam-packed with scheduled tasks? Do you choose work over taking some valuable time with loved ones? If you are anything like me, this describes you, too. Then you receive the call. Your loved one has received the diagnoses and has just a few short days remaining on this earth. You drop everything and run to them to share one more conversation, one more hug, one more laugh.

Why must we be faced with death to prioritize our time correctly? Luckily, many of you have figured out this truth before you received that call. I see loving couples enjoying their time together daily while leaving the world behind. I see milestones being celebrated, anniversaries, and recoveries as you count the days of being disease-free. I watch mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, reconnect over food, fellowship, and laughter. I see love in action as couples renew their commitment to each other while walking the forest trail on a warm summer afternoon. The daily reminders that occur at The Inn at Honey Run are a form of therapy for all of us who are privileged to witness these loving acts daily.

We tell ourselves that family and friends are the most important thing in our life, yet our actions often do not reflect this. But, today can be the first day of your new life. A life that slows down and allows the symphony of the birds to play in the background of a perfect day spent with someone you love. Sharing a meal as it is intended to be eaten — slowly, coursed, and intentional — savoring the flavors of the food, smelling the fresh air, having your soul filled with joy as you dine with someone you love. We are blessed to have work and are not meant to be on a permanent vacation; but, we must take time and make it quality time with those we love, because a life without family and friends is no life at all. Seize the day and make the time. Share your most valuable gift, your time.

Your slow-to-awaken Innkeeper,

Jason

Jason, I love your monthly letter. We were gifted with a 2day experience last September and we absolutely loved the inn. Once again my son and daughter gave us a gift certificate to stay once again at the inn. Hopefully the turkey will once again be at our window in the morning . Thank you for such an awesome experience. Catherine

I spent my 60th birthday at the Inn with my husband. We also spent out 50th wedding anniversary at the Inn a few years later. My husband of 54 years passed away last year and the memories of our time at the Inn are among my favorite memories. The wonderful meals, staying in the honeycombs, the trails, the beautiful scenery, and just being together away from the world. I am so thankful we spent those days together at your beautiful Inn.

    Jason,
It was an honor to meet you as a sponsor of The Evening at the Roudhouse event. Your donation of time and money is greatly appreciated. We raised enough money to sponsor a$1000 scholarship this year and into the future.
I have been coming to Inn at Honey Run many years, as a guest and dining. I proposed to my wife there. I enjoy your insightful thoughts and your love of food and the arts. As for the Inn, you have taken a work of art and made it a masterpiece. Thank you.

    My best regards,

    Dean Putt

Jason, after just hearing of a friends’ diagnosis of cancer, your words were like apples of gold in settings of silver to me. Thank you!
