Lauren Skunta’s Installation at OAAM is Turning Heads…Literally

Posted on December 6, 2016
in Newsletters, Open Air Art Museum

We can’t decide what we love more about Cleveland artist, Lauren Skunta’s newest Open Air Art Museum installation – the fact that we unknowingly created a honeycomb-type structure hovering over the OAAM trail or the mesmerizing fluidity of the 12,000 hand-dyed paint sticks seamlessly waving amongst a light breeze (see video below).

The Process

It’s hard to believe that with much perseverance (and patience!) something as tedious and minute as zip-tying one paint stick, to one net, over and over and over again, could create such a magnificent structure with depth, contrast, movement, and unity. Watch the video below to see Lauren’s process from start to finish during installation week.

“My hope is that the piece is viewed differently in every season. When the trees are full of leaves, the art installation will be hidden from view until guests turn around a bend in the trail. When the trees are less dense, my hope is that guests see the yellow hue in the distance and venture out to see what it is.”  said Skunta.

We, too, are excited to see what the different seasons bring to this piece and the rest of our Open Air Art Museum. We are so honored to have had such a unique artist contribute a piece unlike any other to the OAAM trail, and we encourage you to come see the grandeur of its presence first-hand during your next visit at The Inn.

This is an amazing place to get away from it all. A hidden gem in the middle of Amish country. If you enjoy quiet, bird watching, feeding sheep, and eating wonderful food this is the place for you. Just a short drive from Berlin, explore the amazing Amish lifestyle and modern shops. The roms are perfect even without a hot tub.
