Dear Honey Run Friends,
I recently had a free evening and I watched the movie The Hornet’s Nest. This film gave me a short glimpse into a day in the life of our current active military in Afghanistan. The film kept me on the edge of my seat and wrapped up with me in tears seeing the sacrifice of a number of our soldiers in service to our country and their fellow soldiers. This made me reflect on the meaning of service and the truly high price paid by many American families as their sons and daughters will never come home to share another Thanksgiving or Sunday afternoon with their loved ones. I am humbled beyond words.
I certainly have never sacrificed anything in my life close to what our military families have endured. I, along with countless others often take our freedoms for granted and I can easily forget the sacrifices made for me to live my peaceful life here in Millersburg, Ohio. No words can express my gratitude to all of those who heed the call to serve their country.
All I can offer is my sincerest thanks. If you are a current active duty member of our military or if you have served in the past, please know that I am thinking and thanking God for you today. No one should have to face the evils of the world that you march towards but know that because of your bravery and commitment you have made a difference in the lives of millions and in mine. You have allowed us to disagree with each other publicly and not fear imprisonment, you have allowed us to share birthdays and holidays with our families and not fear foreign invasions, your actions have allowed us to worship God or whatever we each choose without fear of death. While our actions as a society do not always reflect one of gratitude toward our fellow citizens we all know deep down how lucky we are to be citizens of The United States of America. Your actions leave no doubt of hope for tomorrow by the blessings you bestow on all of us today. Thank you.
