Letter from Jason – March 2020

Posted on March 9, 2020
in Letters from Jason

I am not a perfect man.

Last week while attending a funeral I listened to the stories shared by family and friends of the deceased, and it made me ponder my life. When we die, people list our many accomplishments as though we need to submit a complete resume to the afterlife. These stories and accomplishments help paint a picture of who a person was in life. However, they do not always reveal how the person achieved their successes. Were they corrupt? Did they stab people in the back as they climbed the ladder? I’m personally guilty of often looking at the final outcome without paying any mind to how it was achieved.

I am learning as I age that the accomplishment is not the thing of importance, but rather the motive and means that were used to achieve it. If I fail at every “accomplishment” but love people, lift up those around me, and treat others as I would want to be treated, then I have achieved success.

When the day comes for someone to share stories of my life, I pray that, instead of listing my achievements, they share the path I took and the ways in which I interacted with those I’ve been blessed to encounter. Life comes with great responsibility to live and act always in a manner that brings honor, love, and respect to those around you.

I hope you are living the life that you want to be remembered for when you move onto the next life. I hope you are taking time to nurture your soul so you can be patient and loving in all interactions. I hope you are proud of what will be said about you at your funeral.

Your reflective innkeeper,

Jason

Just checking as we still plan to visit as of this date. Hope you will respond. Don and Carolyn Guss We are 85 & 86 and supposedly more volubly but also to most things (HA) We really are healthy at our age. Best to all.
