Letter from Jason – February 2020

Posted on February 5, 2020
in Letters from Jason, Newsletters

As a child, I was dragged to church each Sunday by my parents. I remember being taught that when we die and go to heaven, we would be singing endlessly with the angels and praising God. This seemed like a boring prospect; I could not understand why God would have us singing all the time. Fast forward thirty years and I think I finally get it.

When life is beating me up, or I am facing a difficult life situation, I have found the most peaceful thing I can do is crank up my favorite hymns and music and feel the music vibrate through my soul. I can feel the music in every bone in my body, and the vibrations put me in an almost trance-like state. I have been in cathedrals in Europe and in the United States, and the echoing of angelic choral voices in their halls always gives me chills. If this is what heaven is, I am anxiously waiting. I hear this music in the sounds of nature as well. Walking through the forest at The Inn and hearing all its sounds – the squirrels scurrying, the birds and insects chirping and singing, the rushing of the creek water over the rocks  – it all creates the same effect for me as hearing a choir in a thousand year-old cathedral. It calms my soul and brings joy bubbling throughout my spirit.

Have you allowed yourself the time recently to hear nature’s choir? I hope you can find some time this spring to get outside and listen. Let the healing sounds of nature touch your soul and bring you peace. I promise you won’t regret these moments.

Your joy-filled Innkeeper,

Jason

A robust robin scolded me the other morning to remind me to throw out raisons. I did. I believe he is a repeat visitor.. I love a robin’s voice and often stand for a long time to hear their full concerto.

    Jason,

What a beautiful letter. I agree with you completely on all counts. My greatest spiritual retreats have been the ones where I get out in nature and let the calm and peace that passes understanding wash over me and feel the unique joy that spending time in God’s creation brings. It is one of the things I love most about The Inn At Honey Run. It is my favorite place to get away and take time to recharge. Thanks for making The Inn At Honey Run possible. Marilyn
