Inn at Honey Run News

Still the same Honey Run after all these years.

Posted on May 26, 2011
in Guest Services Blog

I’ve almost seen it all and done it all. At Honey Run that is! I have been employed at The Inn at Honey Run since February of 1995 and have worked in almost every department from Restaurant to Front Desk to Administration to Sales and have now landed in Guest Services. I am not the longest running employee here; that would be Linda in laundry. She has been here for over 20 years!

But I have been here long enough that I could probably write a book or maybe even start a sitcom on what it is like to work in the lodging industry. There is never a dull moment; ever! From fellow employees to favorite guests, each which has left an impact on me and a story along the way. When I meet people that know of or have been to Honey Run the same question has come up more than a few times. “So, is it as serene for you to work there as it is for the guests when staying there?” And my answer is usually the same. “Yes”.

Even though I do explain that it is our job (and sometimes that can be quite a task) to create the atmosphere that they so enjoy I couldn’t think of working anywhere else. Really! Even though I may rush to get here some mornings, once I pull up the curving drive I sigh as the thought passes through my mind of how lucky I am to be pulling into work at such an incredible place. The beauty of each season never ceases to amaze me.

The memories that I have of Marge, Margret and the original crew at Honey Run are priceless. We really were a family and have remained that way even though many of us have grown apart and gone on to many different areas. We will always have this home base in common. ‘M & M’ made sure of that. We were like their kids, no matter what our ages were. They taught us so much and helped us grow. And just like the bird that leaves the nest when it is time, each of us went on our way.

Why am I still here then you ask? I don’t really know. Something has kept me here through it all. Honey Run is not ready for me to leave it yet. I am sure that day will come and that’s okay. I will know when the right time comes and leave knowing I helped make a difference.

Until then I will enjoy meeting new guests, hearing new stories of what brought them to our door and how we have helped make this a special place for them as well. I will welcome new employees and train them on what Honey Run is all about. And I will be thankful that I have found this home away from home that means so much to me.

I enjoyed reading your story about the Inn. Sounds like a really wonderful place to work and I’m glad you are enjoying the time you spend there. I hope one day to be able to spend some time at the Inn in the future.

I remember you Karole from many stays at Honey Run – 1st with my husband. A few years after Frank died, my friend, Dorothy, and I stayed at the inn a few times. And I gathered another friend for a March visit. Honey Run still fills my cup and I hope to be back again many times. You really make a difference. Thanks.
