Inn at Honey Run News

Letter from Jason – December 2018

Dear Honey Run Friends,

Another year completed. I cannot believe that we are entering 2019 in a few weeks. It seems like yesterday we were all abuzz about the year 2000 and all the problems that were going to happen. I blink, and here we are – 19 years into this new Millennia and the world continues to spin.

I am preparing to celebrate my 10th Christmas at The Inn at Honey Run, and I am afraid I have been removed from normal life that I don’t remember the challenges most of you face in the city. I talk about escaping the noise of the city, but I don’t hear this noise anymore. I hear many of you share how great it is to be at The Inn and how the silence of the surroundings is relaxing for you, but this is everyday life for me. I have grown to love the quiet of country life and would not change it for anything.

December is a quiet month around The Inn, which allows me to catch my breath and close out the year. I welcome this quiet, and if I am honest, I have come to relish in these weeks of Advent. I quietly wait for a snowstorm to come through, so I can have an excuse to work from home, watching the snow fall softly on the forest through the large glass picture window. I find myself totally at peace. I, like most Ohioans, miss seeing the sun during these cold days leading to the winter solstice, but I also find comfort in the winter hibernation we practice. I turn the television off, turn on some soft music, and stare out the window at the dimly lit naked trees. The silence is a gift I seldom appreciate and long for to heal my soul each winter.

I pray this Christmas season you have a moment to find this silence for yourself. I hope with all the pageantry, festivities, and busyness of the world around us, you are able to slow down and enjoy the moment. Years ago, I read somewhere that we are human beings, not human doings. We have lost our way and have forgotten how to be. My Christmas wish for each of you is that you spend some time just being while appreciating the blessings we have and those that we are to receive.

Merry Christmas to each of you and a blessed New Year!

Your grateful Innkeeper,

Jason
