Dear Honey Run Friends,
If you are anything like me, you are shaking your head in disbelief that it is already June. Where has this year gone? With all the busyness and noise from work, family, committees, volunteering, and just the unending daily chores at home time passes quickly.
I am blessed that my work is at The Inn at Honey Run and while I too spend way too many hours behind a computer screen, I am afforded moments to enjoy the surroundings and sanctuary we all know and love at Honey Run.
Today I was struggling with writers block not knowing what to share with all of you. How many times can I write about the forest, the birds, the soft breeze through the leaves, and the picture-perfect weather we are experiencing today. Do you tire of hearing about it? But then I thought about this for a moment and I never get tired of this magical place. God’s creation never disappoints. It is ever changing and never the same scene. This work of art is living and changing with every second that passes on the clock. And yet, there is a calm that rushes over me as I sit on the John Deere gator in the middle of the forest and write this letter.
Forest bathing is a real thing. Feeling the energy and life coming from the trees and plants living all around me heals my soul. Hearing the birds and insects going about their day reminds me how small I am in this giant world we live in. And for a moment I step back and realize that as I am in the forest, I am part of this living masterpiece. Is the wildlife looking at me? Do they see this giant marching around their home and think what a marvelous sight? Do they wonder why this overweight human is sitting outside our house smoking a cigar while staring at us? Do they see the beauty I see or are they fearful of me? Yet, regardless of their answers we are cohabiting in this world that was created for all of us to enjoy. In a world that provides our daily needs and gives us peace from a loving Creator who wants to share his love with his creation.
I’m grateful to be alive at this moment in time. I’m grateful for nature and I’m grateful for technology. I’m grateful that I have eyes to see all the shapes and colors of the forest, ears to hear the symphony of creatures all around, a nose to smell the fresh wildflowers and the distinct forest smells, the ability to feel the warm breeze on my skin, and the mind to process gratitude and sheer awe of the impossible odds of the existence of this beautiful moment in time.
I pray that wherever you are and whatever you are doing you can take a moment and say thanks for who you are where you are right now in the world. And, if you are lucky and can find the time to come for a visit, come share the amazing gift I receive every day at The Inn at Honey Run.
Your awe-struck innkeeper,
Jason
I love reading your letters. My husband stumbled onto The Inn at Honey Run. We were passing thru the area for our annual wedding anniversary and were looking for somewhere to eat. We stopped a jogger that was on the side of the road. She suggested The Inn, so when we got there we didn’t feel like we were dressed appropriately. The hostess assured us we were fine. You sent out an appetizer (at no charge). My husband said it was the best. We had our dinner and dessert. Your food is fabulous. We hope to come back soon!
