Inn at Honey Run News

June Letter from Jason

Dear Honey Run Friends,

Learning new things is my favorite thing to do and living at The Inn at Honey Run in Holmes County certainly offers me countless opportunities daily to experience this pleasure. Meeting local business owners and touring their operation always fascinates me. Walking the fields with a farmer to examine their crops while they share their craft delights and amazes me. Watching a new team member at the inn learn to master their job and see their confidence climb with this new skill, is a joy filled day. Even with all of these positive learning opportunities there are times we learn things we wish we did not have to know. All about that rare cancer that our loved one was just diagnosed or how to start over after a thirty year career abruptly ends, or worse, how to plan a funeral.

Most recently I have learned how to live life as a non-smoker. I began smoking in my early teens and I have thoroughly enjoyed this habit and addiction. I liked the taste, smell, and feeling of a cigarette. Well, like most trends in life and I am late to the party so it was no surprise that I was just now quitting this habit. I don’t share this to boast because God knows while I appreciate the fact that I have abstained from this pleasure for two months it is a day-by-day struggle that I will have to maintain. And based on my usual self will I will most likely slip at some point, but for now I will revel in my success and enjoy each day of learning new ways to live without my trusty companion Mr. Marlboro.

The journey of life leads us through new experiences and opportunities to learn from our family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and our past. I hope you embrace the classroom of life with a childlike enthusiasm that makes every task the latest treat of the day. I hope you come to visit The Inn at Honey Run soon and share with me your life experiences, so I can add another joyful moment of learning in my day.

Your always a student innkeeper,

Jason

Congratulations, Jason. That is wonderful. I know it is not easy. Please take this journey of becoming a non-smoker one step further and make your lovely Inn and all of Honey Run non-smoking.
We spent three nights in a honeycomb two weeks ago and it was just what we needed. However, our idyll was marred by another guest lighting up a few feet away from us as we enjoyed a lovely glass of wine on the deck of Tarragon. Immediately our enjoyment of the experience was diminished. We were dismayed later that evening to realize that the smoker was occupying the honeycomb next to ours and was smoking on the patio as we sat a few feet away on our patio.
You have provided so many thoughtful and much- appreciated special touches throughout your Inn, the honeycombs, and the property. Allowing smoking is a big annoyance and we wish you would ban this. We plan on returning to Honey Run again (our first visit was to the Trillium Cottage-wow!) and we would like to see a completely non-smoking establishment next time.

This is the best one yet, by far.

First Congratulations Jason for quitting smoking I am so proud of you! Next I agree with Ellen 100% as it would definitely ruin our trip to get away and smell the flowers…….not cigarette smoke. We have been coming to Inn at Honey Run since 2009 usually twice a year and have enjoyed every trip. I was thinking when we first started coming to Inn at Honey Run it was a non smoking establishment. Good luck to you Jason and hope it gets easier for you one day at a time.
