Event Case Study: Alumni Seminar

Posted on March 28, 2014
in Sales and Events Blog

Each year, a jovial group of alumni from a nearby university comes to the Inn at Honey Run for an annual seminar, “Education on the Run.” The three-day event features presentations on all sorts of academic and cultural topics, and is a chance for alumni to both stretch their minds and catch up with former classmates. While learning is on the agenda, socializing is just as important for this group! Here’s how this alumni group turns our Ohio event space into a place for reconnecting and inspiring conversation.

Type of event: Educational seminar in February

Size: 30-40 people

Needs: Presentation and meeting space, plus lots of opportunities for socializing

Solution:
This group needed a place that would work for both learning and playing, so the Sage Room became an ideal headquarters. Each day offered presentations on a range of current events, research-based and generally interesting topics, plus meals and a reception, so the flexible Sage Room was an ideal event space. A classroom layout — with rows of tabled seating — made the most sense for the daily presentations, and with the addition of a projector, screen and podium, the seminar was ready to roll.

Since extracurricular entertainment was also a top priority for this group, the Sage Room had an extra benefit: it’s adjacent to the Hearth Room, an ideal space to mix and mingle once the day’s lessons were done. A reception with an attended bar and appetizers like petite meatballs with spicy tomato sauce and gorgonzola-stuffed baby potatoes brought everyone together before dinner each evening.

Dinner, breakfast and lunch were served right in the Sage Room, to keep the day flowing smoothly and save event organizers from unnecessary chaos! Seasonal and hearty dishes are catered by Honey Run’s skilled culinary staff; for a group of this size, attendees pre-ordered from a menu including Grilled Tournedos of Beef and Vegetable Penne Primavera.

Walking Trails for Meeting Space

The second afternoon was left free, so attendees could explore the grounds of the Inn at Honey Run — beautiful even in winter — or take a drive through the scenic countryside of Ohio’s Amish Country and shop for some Amish-made goods.

Our staff is always on hand for everything from saying “good morning” to bringing extra chairs and troubleshooting A/V equipment. We’ve welcomed this group to the Inn at Honey Run for a long time now — 17 years — and it’s always a pleasure to see them again!
